Martine de Herdt
post-doc
Martine De Herdt obtained her BSc and MSc (cum laude) in Life Science & Technology at the TUDelft in the fields of industrial microbiology and functional genomics. She first focused on optimizing the dough rise of Saccharomyces cerevisiae under (an)aerobic conditions using high-throughput methodologies both at the Industrial Microbiology Group (TUDelft) as well as DSM Bakery Ingredients (now DSM Food Specialties). Second, she focused on identifying signaling pathways underlying the process of regional lymph node metastasis of oral squamous cell carcinoma at the Departments of Pathology and Otorhinolaryngology & Head and Neck Surgery of the LUMC.
After having obtained her MSc, she started working as a PhD student at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology & Head and Neck Surgery of the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, where she contributed to the department’s oncological research goal, i.e. to improve diagnostics, prognostics and treatment strategies for patients diagnosed with head and neck cancers. In the framework of her PhD work, her main research interests is the MET receptor. Martine expects to complete and defend her PhD thesis soon (end of 2019, begin 2020). She has now joined Riccardo’s lab as a post-doctoral fellow to continue working at the functional analysis of the MET receptor in close collaboration with the Dept. of Otorhinolaryngology & Head and Neck Surgery of the Erasmus MC.
